In the Spotlight
There are SO many great things happening at JCDE it's hard to capture them all, but I hope you enjoy what we are able to capture and share!
Mrs. Comer's 1st grade has their Family Read Aloud!
Mrs. Corbin's Dad brings in his apple cider mill and 1st grade gets to taste fresh apple juice!
Mrs. Shadday's 2nd grade class starts adding two-digit numbers this week! They are using cubes and drawing pictures to represent groups of 10.
Mr. Todd's 5th grade Weighs air in science!
Ms. Denni's Kdg learns about cooperation and how sometimes working together can be difficult!
Mrs. Hughes' Kdg class is learning to be engineers and create a trash collector to clean up water that has been littered.
The Circus Comes to 3rd Grade!
Third grade participated in their own circus on Friday to introduce the upcoming skill of multiplication! There were several stations setup with activities revolving around multiplication. Students earned tickets for an afternoon of circus games!
Class DOJO
Another group of kids that were chosen for DOJO recognition and making good choices this week!
Entering the Building
I've had some parents ask questions about our procedures when being buzzed in the building. If you are leaving the building when another person is coming up to push the intercom, please do not hold the door for that person until after they have been buzzed in. I know that sounds "rude" and we teach our kids to hold the door for others, but we want to monitor everyone that comes into the building. Thank you for helping us keep our building safe!
Pumpkin Show Tickets!
Versailles Pumpkin Show tickets can be purchased in the office. 22 tickets for $20. Make checks payable to Versailles Lions Club.
International Dot Day!
This is a day designated to connect people around the world by collaborating, creating, and celebrating all that creativity inspires and invites. Students listened to The Dot story and completed STEM challenges while going through the engineering process. There were Dot Towers and Dot Bridges!
Soapy Joes Update
Soapy Joes should be here for pick-up the first Week in October! Stay tuned for more information!

Another successful week here at JCDE!
There have been some new things going on in our building this year. One big change is our new math curriculum. This is new to all of us. There have been some parents reaching out for ways to help their child at home. First of all "Thank You" for supporting your child! There is a Family Letter that teachers should be sending home with new lessons. This can help you to see some examples of the skills they are learning. However, it will not show you everything. There are some parts that are only relayed through the instruction in class. If your child is struggling, please know that the teachers will help them. It's ok if you can't help them. This math consists of some teaching strategies that may be new or unfamiliar. This math focuses on processes and concepts of math rather than just memorization of processes/steps. It also is set up to help our students learning to think critically and explain their thinking. I have spent time in several classrooms during math and I am seeing some of this critical thinking come to life! That's really exciting! Anything new takes times and persistence. Our teachers are workin hard to make sure your child is successful.
If you haven't scheduled a conference time with your child's teacher, please do so! Click on the picture and it will take to the sign ups or click this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/index.cfm?go=c.SignUpSearch&eid=08C0C1DBFBCFFB6C0F&cs=09CBBADF8FCC8B177B7D64715BB49BBDFDB0&sortby=l.title
